“Healing Trauma Effects: Combining Ancient Shamanistic Methods with Social Work Practice for Regaining Mental Health and Personal Empowerment”

Summary:
Ancient shamans were the social workers of their time: healing, re-establishing and maintaining harmony and balance for their villagers. Today, shamanic talents are desperately needed to heal the spiritual effects of trauma. This workshop teaches social workers how to apply shamanistic practices in social work settings. They will learn how to heal themselves, their clients and their organizations from the effects of trauma by connecting to the guiding spirit of their mission. No experience necessary.

Participants will:

  • Understand the historical shamanistic view across diverse cultures and where social work, psychology and anthropology intersect.
  • Learn the shamanistic concept of treatment for mental illness and the role of the social worker shamanist.
  • Experience ways shamanistic methods can be combined with social work practice including protocols for and application of beginning shamanistic healing skills.
  • Understand how the shaman practitioner restores personal power to the clients.
  • Meet the spirit of their own agency, nonprofit or private practice via a contemporary urban shaman journey.

Shamanic journeying is a focused healing and spiritual process practiced on every continent on Earth. The shamanic process is aimed at creating balance and harmony in your life by opening doors to parallel realms of consciousness where helpful spirit teachers and power animals dwell. They will help you become the empowered person you were always meant to be.

In this introductory class I will present a detailed overview of shamanism and the power of the drum, and you will have the opportunity to make an introductory journey to meet your power animal. We will begin by setting a sacred circle space and I will provide live drumming for you.  

Please abstain from drug and alcohol use for 24 hours prior to the class.  And bring a blanket, pillow if you need it, and an eye cover.
